Man vs. Treadmill

I’m not much of a runner. Let’s just start with that. I can bike or walk briskly for a good distance, I can usually last a couple of intense rounds of ultimate frisbee, and I can push myself pretty hard in soccer, but if you pointed at a treadmill and told me to log a couple miles on that thing, I’d just laugh.

I’ve decided that I should probably give running a try, though, and since I decided to start giving it a try on a morning when it’s icy and 20 degrees outside, that meant getting on the treadmill at the fitness center. No big deal, right? Just set the speed and hang on tight. I did one mile, really all I was shooting to do this morning, but it was more like a quarter mile running, half mile brisk walk, quarter mile running. I’m hoping to knock down the break between the runs over the next few days, but my shins were still tender from ultimate last night and couldn’t take too much abuse this morning (yes, that’s the excuse I’m going to go with. That and I’m a weakling)

It’s not much of a start, but you gotta start somewhere.
