How a month flies by

I knew I hadn’t posted in a while, but a month? Really? I feel like that’s a bit on the extreme side. Calendars don’t lie, though, so I suppose it really has been that long.

So it’s been a busy month. Work has been crazy busy; Friday was the quietest I’ve seen things in weeks. All month, really. It was nice to be able to sit still for an afternoon though and not have a constant crush of work coming in. Peace and quiet can be a very good thing.

I got stood up by someone last weekend. I had met a girl online and we were going to do a night in GR: HopCat, Bistro Bella Vita, and then who knows what from there. I got Jetta nice and cleaned out, I spent the week before mentally getting ready for it, and then when 6pm rolled around I found myself sitting in HopCat, alone, with nothing but a Huma Lupa Licious and a waitress who felt sorry for me to keep me company. The night wasn’t a total loss; I had a steak and watched a friend light a table on fire (deliberately) and generally had a good time, but still…it sucked.

Today, Jetta decided I hadn’t been paying enough attention to her. I think she sensed my imminent plans to get an Xbox 360 Slim (a reward for passing my Windows 7 exam at the end of this month) and decided I should spend the money on her instead…and so the MIL (check engine light) is back on again. Since the car seems to run fine, I’m betting it’s either a misfire or a sensor. I have noticed some slightly rough idling lately, but nothing too severe. I’ll scan the car on Tuesday and then probably take it in so they can either do a deeper diagnosis or clear the code.

Finally, I decided to decommission iMac tonight. Four years and roughly 11 months after getting her, I stripped her apart and pulled the hard drive. Despite the fact that she hasn’t run more than about 10 minutes in the last few weeks, something still smelled like hot dust. It was interesting to poke around in there; the layout for the Core Duo is a little different from the other iMacs I’ve cracked open in the past.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t particularly gentle when it came to taking it apart. I was in there for that hard drive, that’s all. Now that little Deskstar is all that remains.

I’ve got iMac put back together to the point that it can get shipped off to Goodwill (Tuesday morning) for recycling now. At this point, I’m down to one computer; my work laptop. At some point in the next year or two I’ll start building something new, and I might yet get a Mac Mini for the entertainment system, but for now it’s just STARBUCK and me. I’ll miss iMac.
